God bless silly people no.3

France, a couple of summers ago.

My husband went outside after supper to put the car away in the garage. He noticed that the caretaker, who lives in the cottage by the road and who is in charge of watering the grounds in the evenings, was looking a bit harassed. He was scuttling around with watering cans and dragging the hose pipe along. He is only a little man and he was sweating profusely as he dashed up and down.

“What’s up, Jean-Charles ? You all right?” asked my husband.

“Yes, monsieur,” panted the caretaker, and he glanced up at the overcast sky, “I’m just rushing to get the watering done before it rains.”
