“Travels with a Biro”
What I really REALLY wanted was for a huge elephant to walk through the camp. You know, right in front of our rondavel (hut). But the camps are all fenced off these days. This elephant was at Satara camp, and he stood for a while looking grimly at us on the other side of the pond, and every now and then he scooped dust up with his trunk and sprayed it over himself – elephant sun block, apparently. I must dig out my hippo sketches – there were hippos in that same pond, making the most melodramatic noises, but because they kept ducking under the water I had to scribble over several pages before I was able to sketch one.
